BAGPIPES ARE WONDERFUL AT WEDDINGS

The romantic strains of the pipes add a special touch to any wedding, whether inside a church sanctuary or outside in a park or garden. For centuries in Scotland and Ireland the music of the pipes have heralded the approach of the bridal party. Today the popularity of "Riverdance" has made the music of the pipes more desired than ever. No longer need a family be of Celtic ancestry to enjoy the skirl of the pipes on this most important day.

Bruce's Piping Education

Bruce Hedman began piping at age twelve in Seattle, Washington where he received his first lessons from Pipe Major Jack Ironsides. Since 1993 Bruce has studied with Pipe Major Donald Lindsay of the Invermark College of Piping in Petersborough, New York. Bruce is a member of the Eastern United States Pipe Band Association (EUSPBA), with whom he holds standing as a Piper 3, earned by competing at Highland Games throughout New England. In recent years Bruce has medaled ten times in these competitions, including four firsts and "Piper of the Day" at the Southern Vermont Highland Games in Mount Snow, Vermont. While on sabbatical leave as a visiting professor at the University of Edinburgh in 1998-1999 Bruce took lessons from Iain MacInnes, host of BBC's weekly program "Pipeline." Bruce plays a set of African blackwood bagpipes which were made for him in 1992 by Piob Mhor of Blairgowerie in Perthshire, Scotland, and which were turned in the antique style. Bruce is a professor of mathematics at the University of Connecticut.
